You already know…
It’s Viano!

Society has a way of bringing you down
Putting you under pressure
Making you frown
Gives you the impression that you’re never good enough
Fills you with doubt— damn, it’s crazy

They say you need this, you gotta buy that
They say you’re too thin then say you’re too fat
It’s never enough, they’re always wanting more
It’s so many illusions and multiple confusions

They tell you slow down then say you’re not fast
They tell you be strong then say you’re too tough
You’re never too old but you must stay young
It’s so many illusions and multiple confusions

But go ahead, go ‘head and be you
Now go ahead, go ‘head and be true
There’s nothing wrong, there’s nothing wrong with you
There’s only one you and you’re enough

Now go ahead, go ‘head and be free
Now go ahead, go ‘head and be real
There’s nothing wrong, there’s nothing wrong with you
There’s only one you and you’re enough

Society makes unrealistic standards
Puts you through much trauma
Constant stereotyping, racial profiling
It’s crazy, how lousy
Too much propaganda, endless programming — it’s frightening

They say you’re not black but then you’re too dark
They say you’re not bright but they don’t want smart
You’re feeling so small and filled with self-doubt
Listen, You’re enough

No matter your complexion, no matter your race
No matter what your size is, no matter your shape
You’ve got your own shine, you’ll shine at your pace
No matter who are, you are enough! Okay.

Written and Performed: Viano Dee
Instrumental: Buccaneer’s March by Aakash Gandhi

About You Are Enough

You Are Enough is a rap infused spoken word poetry that talks about the role society plays in programming people to think that they are out of place if they don’t “belong”, buy certain things, alter their looks or encouraging them to be who they truly aren’t.

There’s so much pressure on people to be made, to be politically correct, to look “good” or “different”. The list is endless. It goes to show that no matter what one does, society will still complain. At the end of the day, it’ll be best for one to be themselves— to be comfortable in their skins, bodies, races— with the people they truly are, the people they were born to be because they are enough. We are enough. You are enough.

This is a beautiful reminder to everyone! It’s definitely easy to think that you don’t belong in today’s society if you don’t look a certain way or have certain things in life, but really, these things don’t matter; being your best self and not losing who you are is truly what’s important!

Go Viano! Very interesting. I can’t say I’ve listened to much spoken word. I like many of your messages here.

I definitely agree with a lot from this song, especially how society wants people to adhere to a certain mold, and way of life. And sometimes it is so subtle that we do not realize we have been trying to fit in, but when you accept who you are and live for that, it is an incredible feeling.

It’s got an interesting beat and I like that they address things we should be more cognitive of.

Just what I wanted to read right now. I am “cycling” again and currently on the down side. It just makes me feel so inferior when I meet up with my sister who is a well-established dentist. She’s tall, slim, has pretty clothes and drives a nice car while I look like an overdone baked potato struggling to make ends meet. But then again, I have a family who loves me and I know that for them, I am the best mom they can ever have. I have to start getting that mindset in – I Am Enough.

I think you need to stop looking down on yourself. Build your confidence and watch others want to be like you. It all starts with you.

I need to hear this today. I think in today’s world it is so hard to remember just the basic idea of being enough. You are really making it easier today to keep that in mind

So true. We need to hear this often and be confident in ourselves!

This is so cool! And the message is so true. Sometimes we get so confused because we try to be what others want is to be, thinking that will bring us happiness. In the end though, finding yourself and being you is enough!

Yes. It’s true. Nice piece. We need to talk to ourselves every time we feel down that we are enough. We are worthy, acceptable and loved. We are all these things. Sometimes, we need to not try to become more, because we are enough. 🙂

This is amazing! WE need to start believing that we are enough! Love the message and beat.

The message is very powerful. The world will try to tell you that you are not enough in every way possible. Your song is a great reminder that’s not true. Thanks for creating a powerful message!
