Everyone’s got a story to tell
Everyone’s got something they fear
Everyone’s got a past that they dread
No one is truly perfect
I guess my story could be made up of tears on a scroll
Maybe my pen will bleed the letters and just make them bold
I hope you understand why this story has to be told
Just sit back and relax, listen to it unfold
I’ve had my share of shame, disdain stuck to my face
I’ve had my ups and downs, days when I feel a clown
I know it sounds cliché, don’t put up barricades
Just want to let you know some things that go unknown
I’ve had suicidal thoughts, I’ve let them linger on
Some days I feel confused, some days misunderstood
Sometimes I’m just transfixed on pasts that I can’t fix
I look to God above and it’s amazing how
I heal like the wolverine
I heal like the wolverine
These are my scars, you’ve seen my bruises, this is all of me
Yet I heal like the wolverine
I’m free like I am the wind
I’m fierce like the lion king
I fight my battles, learn from mistakes, claim my sanity
When I heal like the wolverine
I heal like the wolverine
I heal like the wolverine
These are my scars, you’ve seen my bruises, this is all of me
Yet I heal like the wolverine
I’m free like I am the wind
I’m fierce like the lion king
I fight my battles, learn from mistakes, claim my sanity
When I heal like the wolverine
Written and Performed by Viano Dee

About Wolverine
This is a rap infused spoken word poetry/ song that talks about the struggles the composer has faced and how she overcame and still overcomes by trusting God.
The title was inspired by a friend who survived an accident and whose wounds were quickly healing. He updated his WhatsApp status with a picture of his wounds and titled it : One more reason to marry me, I heal like Wolverine.
That prompted me to do a research on the animal only to discover that he was referring to the fictional character as named above.
Surprisingly, I have only seen the trailer of X-men not any of the series so I had no idea the fictional character could heal fast until I googled it.
About two days later, while listening to Aakash Gandhi’s instrumental titled Immortality, it struck a chord and within a few minutes the rap/song was born.

Just with the title, its kind of cool to hear already. But the rap part must be the perfect essence on completing the whole vibe. Very nice.
Thanks so much.
looks pretty cool! not a big fan of wolverine but I liked the creativity here

Too funny that you weren’t familiar with the Marvel character until you looked it up. Thanks for sharing!

Yaaaas!!! Thanks a million!
Love how you are wearing and owning your scars! These are the things that make people humans. Mistakes and learning!
Thanks so much, Komal.
Although this song starts out a bit dark, the lyrics indicate that you triumph in the end. I find that very uplifting.
Thank you so much, Lori.
I enjoyed listening to this piece. I hope I can also heal like Wolverine! I wish it’s easy to overcome my struggles.
You can and you will. I’m so glad you enjoyed it, Karla.

True, Pooja. Thank you for listening.

Nice poem! I am an X-Men fanatic particularly Wolverine and I really was like..oh this is so amusing! Very inspiring too!
This spoken word is my favorite. I like how you broaden the healing aspect to go just beyond healing of physical injury. It’s like finding a gold bar though there are lots of mud bars called songs.
